Fired Miramonte Teacher Sues LAUSD For Back Pay

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A former Miramonte Elementary School teacher who won dismissal of allegations he inappropriately touched a female student is suing the Los Angeles Unified School District for back pay.

Martin Springer's suit filed Tuesday asks that he be paid for the two years he was suspended, plus interest.

The case against Springer was tossed after prosecutors said they were unable to proceed because the alleged victim did not want to testify.

Officials voted unanimously in February 2012 to fire Springer, who had taught at Miramonte for about 25 years.

Springer's suit states that he was suspended from February 2012 until the time the charges were dismissed.
