Ex-LAPD Officer's Dad Sentenced To Probation After Helping Son Flee To Mexico
EL PASO, Texas (AP) — A judge in El Paso has ordered probation for a man who lied to protect his son, a rookie Los Angeles police officer who had been charged in an off-duty slaying.
Victor Manuel Solis, of Lancaster, was sentenced Thursday to three years of probation and fined $1,000. The father was convicted in June of making false statements to the FBI.
Investigators say Henry Solis fled to Mexico — with help from his father — after a fatal shooting near a nightclub in Pomona in March. The victim was Salome Rodriguez.
The police department fired Solis and urged him to surrender. He was arrested in May in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, across the border from El Paso, where the family has relatives.
He was deported and returned to California.
