Ex-Exec Of O.C. Firm Sentenced For $3 Million Embezzlement

SANTA ANA (AP) — A former executive of an Orange County company that provides services to the criminal justice system is going to prison.

Authorities say Steven Hagstrom of Anaheim was sentenced Monday to more than three years in federal prison for embezzling more than $3 million. He was ordered to repay more than $2 million.

Authorities say the 38-year-old Hagstrom stole money while he was controller of Sentinel Offender Services of Irvine.

The company supervises electronic monitoring and other programs for state and federal courts and probation departments.

Hagstrom pleaded guilty last June to embezzling from Sentinel's bank accounts, which held in trust fines, court fees and restitution payments from criminal defendants.
