Ex-City Official Pleads No Contest To Conflict Of Interest

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A former official from the small Los Angeles County city of Irwindale has pleaded no contest to a conflict of interest count and agreed to pay more than $9,000 in fines and restitution.

15 felony counts against 69-year-old retired Irwindale finance director Abraham De Dios were dropped as he entered the plea Monday to the single misdemeanor count. He was ordered to pay about $5,300 in restitution and more than $4,000 in fines, and sentenced to 100 hours of community service and three years' probation.

De Dios was one of four Irwindale officials charged accused of taking pricey trips to New York that included baseball games and Broadway shows at taxpayer expense.

The charges were filed a second time after an appeals court tossed out a first indictment.
