Ex-Boyfriend Charged With Murdering Mother Of His 2 Children In Monrovia

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A 45-year-old man accused of killing the mother of his two children was charged with murder on Wednesday.

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, Jose Roberto Turner, of Pasadena, faces one count of murder.

On June 16, La Joya McCoy, 31, was found dead inside of her parked vehicle, located in the 200 block of West Cypress Avenue in Monrovia, according to prosecutors.

She had been missing for a week before she was discovered about a mile away from her home on West Olive Avenue.

The criminal complaint alleges Turner murdered McCoy on June 10. He was arrested in August.

McCoy was the mother of two young children. She ran a clothing boutique in Monterrey Park.

Turner is scheduled to appear in court at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday in Pasadena.

At this time, he is being held without bail, however, prosecutors have recommended bail be set at $1 million.

If convicted, he faces a possible maximum sentence of 25 years to life in state prison.
