Evacuations Ordered As Lime Fire Burns 400 Acres In Ventura County

LAKE PIRU (CBSLA) — Evacuations were ordered as Ventura County firefighters battled a 400-acre brush fire in the remote area of Piru Wednesday evening.

As of 10 p.m., Ventura County Fire Department said the fire was 30% contained with 125 firefighters on scene as the flames continued spreading toward Lake Piru.

Though the fire had decreased in intensity as wind speed and temperatures decreased, evacuation orders remained in place for the Lake Piru Recreation Area and the west side of Piru Canyon Road, from Lake Piru south to Orchard Street.

Piru Canyon Road also remained closed as firefighters worked to contain the flames.

According to fire officials, the Lime fire broke out in the afternoon near the Lake Piru campground and had the potential to grow to more than 1,000 acres and was threatening 25 structures.
