Brush Fire Burns 10 Acres East Of Corona Airport

CORONA (CBSLA.com) — A fire broke out Wednesday just east of Corona Municipal Airport, burning more than 10 acres and threatening homes.

The flames were reported about 3 p.m. in a dry riverbed near Auberndale and Rincon streets.

Corona firefighters, with the help of personnel from the city and county of Riverside, were working to get a line around the blaze, with the aid of water-dropping helicopters from Cal Fire. The fire's forward progress was stopped by 5:30 p.m.

Crews are expected to be on the fire line well into the night, working toward full containment and knocking down flare-ups.

Evacuation orders were being lifted in the area of Fallbrook Drive.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
