Proposition 20: Voters Appear To Vote Against Increasing Penalties For Certain Crimes, Restricting Early Parole For Additional Crimes
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) -- According to the latest Associated Press count, Proposition 20 did not pass Tuesday night with 62.8% voting no and 37.2% voting yes out of the reported 67% of votes counted.
Among the one dozen propositions under consideration by California voters in the 2020 Election was Proposition 20, which if passed, would have toughened sentencing and parole laws and make it harder for some offenders to get early parole.
The measure would have placed new limits on the lighter sentences included in previously passed Proposition 47 and Proposition 57 for non-violent crimes, including drugs and theft, by allowing some of those crimes to be charged as felonies.
