Elderly Man, 8 Birds Killed In Rimforest House Fire

RIMFOREST (CBSLA.com) — An elderly man and eight birds were killed in a house fire in San Bernardino County.

Firefighters were dispatched to the fire at the three-story home on Hazel Place in Rimforest Tuesday.

They attempted to get inside the home but were pushed back due to the flames and downed power lines.

"Upon firefighter arrival, the top two stories were fully involved," Tracey Martinez, a public information officer for the San Bernardino County Fire Department, told KNX 1070's Ron Kilgore.

Investigators described the deceased as a 78-year-old man but did not release his name. His body was found near the backdoor.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Rimforest is a community in the San Bernardino Mountains between Crestline and Lake Arrowhead.
