'Elaborate And Dangerous' Marijuana Grow Operation Found In Walnut Home

WALNUT (CBSLA.com) — Hundreds of plants were discovered in an elaborate marijuana grow system rigged precariously in a Walnut home, authorities said Thursday.

About $2,000 in cash and 403 marijuana plants at various stages of growth were seized after authorities found an "elaborate and dangerous" marijuana grow system at a home in the 20200 block of Burnt Tree Lane in Walnut Wednesday, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's officials.

The combined street value of the marijuana plants is estimated at close to $400,000.

Investigators also found equipment used in the production of the illegal marijuana and a set up to keep the odor filtering out of the home.

Two men were arrested. Their names, ages and cities of residence were not released by authorities.

Authorities said the grow operation was precariously wired, creating an extremely dangerous fire hazard, due to the large amount of electrical energy which could become overloaded. Southern California Edison officials were notified of the fire hazard and turned off the power to the residence, rendering it safe.
