El Monte Police Shoot Stolen Truck Suspect After He Allegedly Drove At Officer

EL MONTE (AP) — Authorities say a suspect who drove a stolen pickup at an El Monte Police officer was shot several times but is expected to survive.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Crystal Hernandez tells City News Service the officer-involved shooting happened Monday afternoon.

Officers responding to a report of a stolen vehicle spotted two men in the truck. Hernandez says the suspect backed the pickup into a patrol vehicle, then drove at an officer, at which point he was shot. The 20-year-old is hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds.

The second suspect, a 21-year-old man, ran off but was captured nearby.

The shooting is under investigation.
