Edible Artwork To Benefit Long Beach Families In Need
LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Cans of green beans, tuna, corn and sardines were crafted into edible artwork at the Mercedes Benz dealership showroom Thursday, all for the sake of charity.
Food Finders of Long Beach, a charity that benefits local families in need, challenged four design teams to build can structures over the course of 12 hours.
The teams taped, stacked and glued almost 2,000 cans each as part of the "CANstruction" competition.
Some artists replicated the Long Beach City Hall, the Queen Mary and even a divers helmet through their can structures.
CANstruction was founded in 1992 to promote the design community while raising food donations for those who are in need.
The can structures will be displayed through Sept. 1 in the dealership showroom, located on Spring Street in Signal Hill.
Visitors are encouraged to bring more canned food items, donate to the charity and vote for their favorite structure.
