5 Displaced After Car Crashes Into Home, Catches On Fire

EASTVALE (CBSLA.com) — Five Riverside County residents were displaced Monday after a vehicle crashed through the wall of their home and caught on fire.

According to the Riverside County Fire Department, crews were sent just after 2 a.m. to a property located in the 13800 block of Dellbrook Street in Eastvale for report of a vehicle into a residence.

Upon their arrival, authorities located smoke and fire showing from the first floor of the two-story home.

A preliminary investigation revealed a car crashed through a wall of the home and came to rest in the living room before it caught on fire.

CBS2's Jasmine Viel spoke with Hunter Espinoza, who described hearing the crash as "sounding like a bomb."

The driver fled from the scene.

Twenty-four firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames shortly after their arrival to the scene.

Paramedics evaluated one resident for non-life threatening injuries.

The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.

Authorities estimate $100,000 in damage was done to the property.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
