Suspects flee on foot after East Los Angeles shooting leaves 1 dead, 3 hospitalized

One person was killed and three others were hospitalized after a shooting in East Los Angeles on Tuesday night.

It happened at around 8:15 p.m. near S. Arizona Avenue and Telegraph Road, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Deputies were called to the scene upon learning of shots being fired and found several shooting victims.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said. He was identified on Wednesday as 31-year-old Ricardo Manuel Perez-Montalvan by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.

Three others, all men, were taken to nearby hospitals after the shooting. Deputies said that two of the victims were in critical condition, while one was stable.

"Investigators learned all four victims were seated in a vehicle when several suspects approached their vehicle and fired shots at them," a news release from LASD said the day after the shooting.

Deputies said that two suspects fled from the area on foot before getting into a car and fleeing northbound on Arizona Avenue, deputies said.

As their investigation got underway, California Highway Patrol officers closed the 5 Freeway offramp nearby to all traffic until early Wednesday.
