Magnitude 4.0 Earthquake Rattles Big Bear Lake

BIG BEAR LAKE (CBSLA.com) — A magnitude-4.0 earthquake shook near Big Bear Lake on Wednesday morning.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake was reported with a preliminary magnitude 4.5 around 9:15 a.m., with the epicenter about 12 kilometers south-southeast of Big Bear Lake.

Shortly before 10 a.m., officials downgraded the magnitude of the quake.

USGS Seismologist Lucy Jones posted on Twitter that she felt the jolt during a Southern California Earthquake Center meeting.

Meanwhile, San Bernardino County Supervisor Josie Gonzales reported the quake rattled for 20 seconds.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department has confirmed there have been no reports of injuries or damage.

Shortly before 10 a.m., officials downgraded the magnitude of the quake.

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 2.8 was reported in the same area at 8:13 p.m. Wednesday.
