DUI Suspect Slams Into Lincoln Heights Church During Police Pursuit

LINCOLN HEIGHTS (CBSLA.com) — The suspected drunken driver had police officers on his tail late Wednesday.

The suspect's Honda screeched through the streets of Lincoln Heights, hoping to evade officers, when he lost control of the car in the 2800 block of Baldwin Street, authorities report.

The Honda careened into the Sacred Heart Catholic Church around 11:50 p.m., Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Leonard Ramirez said.

The church sustained slight damage.

The 10-minute chase began at East Olympic Boulevard and South San Pedro Street when officers suspected the Honda.

Police realized the vehicle wasn't stolen but they did suspect the driver was under the influence, Ramirez said.

The driver was hospitalized with minor injuries. Ramirez says he'll likely be charged with DUI and felony evasion.
