Drought Causing Sticky Situation For Calif. Beekeepers

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — California's drought crisis is proving quite a sting to beekeepers.

The lack of rain means not as many crops and wildflowers are providing the nectar that bees need to turn into honey.

The state's honey crop is approximately half the usual yield.

Producers are now feeding their bees more sugar syrup, which they say is an expensive alternative.

Beekeepers said they'll have to pass on the cost to consumers.

Some beekeepers are moving their bees to North Dakota, where the bees can live in the clover and buckwheat fields.
