Drivers Warned Of Heavy Winds, Snow In Southern California
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The National Weather Service is warning travelers about heavy winds and potential blowing snow on busy Interstate 5 in Southern California.
A storm system Sunday was expected to bring rain and snow showers throughout the area.
Weather specialist Bonnie Bartling says wind gusts could reach up to 70 mph at the infamous Grapevine mountain pass north of Los Angeles.
A high-wind advisory was in effect until 4 a.m. Monday in the Lancaster area.
Bartling says the combination of wind and snow could create icy roads and low visibility Sunday afternoon and evening.
Snow totals could reach between 1 and 2 inches at elevations of 5,000 feet and could get up to 6 inches in higher elevations.
A separate storm dumped up to 3 inches of rain and 4 inches of snow in parts of drought-stricken Southern California on Saturday.
