Driver Who Killed 101-Year-Old Man In Boyle Heights Gets 3 Years In Prison

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A driver who struck and killed a 101-year-old man in an East L.A. crosswalk has been sentenced to three years in state prison.

Ricardo Avalos was sentenced Tuesday after pleading no contest to felony hit-and-run driving causing death and a misdemeanor charge of vehicular manslaughter.

Authorities say the 41-year-old L.A. man was driving a van that struck Jose Noriega as the 101-year-old crossed a street in Boyle Heights last October.

The van drove off but a motorist who saw the accident followed and cut it off. A second motorist then took the driver's keys.
