Driver Sought In Deadly Hit-And-Run Accident In LA

LANCASTER (CBSLA.com) — Sheriff's sought the public's help Sunday in locating the suspect responsible for fatally striking a 42-year-old man in Lancaster.

According to the Lancaster Sheriff's Station, deputies were called around 9:20 p.m. Saturday to the intersection of Avenue L and 35th Street West for report of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian.

Once on scene, officials located the man lying in the middle of the street. Paramedics transported him to a hospital where he later died. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

Authorities said the suspect fled the scene after hitting the victim. Although no vehicle description has been provided yet, deputies explained a vehicle that strikes a person will have significant damage to the front end.

KCAL9's Joy Benedict added that there are four traffic cameras located in the intersection, and authorities will be reviewing the tapes later today to provide more details in the case.

Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is urged to contact the Lancaster Sheriff's Department at (661) 948-8466.
