Driver Runs Away After Hitting, Killing 20-Year-Old Jennifer Lopez In Compton

COMPTON (CBSLA) – Deputies are searching for a driver involved in a hit-and-run wreck which left a 20-year-old woman dead in a residential neighborhood in Compton Monday night.

The crash involving at least two vehicles occurred at the intersection South Bullis Road and East Alondra Boulevard a little before 9 p.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reports. One of the cars slammed through a fence and landed in the front yard of a home.

Deputies responded to find a woman dead at the scene. She was later identified by the county coroner's office as Jennifer Lopez.

One of the drivers involved in the crash abandoned their vehicle and ran away, the sheriff's department said.

"I saw the suspect get out of the car," witness Kimberly Ibarra said. "He was shaking everything off, and I was like, 'are you OK?' He was like, 'yeah.' I turned around to see this car, to see if anybody was in the car, I saw nobody, and when I turned around, the guy was gone."

The circumstances of the crash were not immediately disclosed. It's unclear whether Lopez was a driver or a passenger.
