Driver Plows Through La Habra Convenience Store

LA HABRA (CBSLA.com) — A convenience store remained closed Sunday after a woman in her 70s plowed into the storefront windows yesterday evening.

According to the La Habra Police Department, officers were sent to the 7-Eleven store located in the area of East La Habra Boulevard and North Palm Street just after 10 p.m. Saturday.

A preliminary investigation revealed the elderly woman attempted to pull into a parking space in front of the convenience store, when she mistook the gas pedal for the break.

The driver then slammed into the storefront window and pushed everything towards the back of the store, which caused extensive damage.

Officers explained two employees were inside the store at the time of the crash.

Luckily, they both were not in the area when the car came crashing through the window.

KCAL9's Joy Benedict spoke with employees on Sunday as they worked to board up windows and repair the electrical system inside the store.

No injuries were reported as a result of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation as officers explained the driver was not impaired in any way.

At this time, police said they are ruling the crash as a mistake, and have not cited or charged the driver.
