Driver Pleads No Contest To Killing 2 Friends During Birthday Celebration

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com/AP) — Authorities say a driver involved in a crash that killed two passengers and seriously injured two others pleaded no contest to two counts of vehicular manslaughter.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said Friday that Jeanette Romero, 23, also admitted to allegations of great bodily injury in the plea entered late Thursday. She's expected to be sentenced to two years and eight months in state prison.

Authorities say Romero's car careened off the 110 Freeway and into a tree after she celebrated 22-year-old Ana Cuadra's birthday at a downtown L.A. club with three other friends in November.

Cuadra and Blanca Belman-Almanza, 23, were killed.

Prosecutors alleged Romero had been driving drunk.
