Driver In Custody On Hit-And-Run, DUI Charges After Bicyclist Fatally Struck In OC

HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A driver was in custody Thursday after allegedly striking and killing a bicyclist with his truck in Huntington Beach.

Antonio Magdaleno Jr., 29, of Oxnard, was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and driving under the influence, police said.

A 37-year-old unidentified Huntington Beach man was fatally struck around 10:55 p.m. Wednesday in the 18600 block of Edwards Street.

Sgt. Julio Mendez said the cyclist was riding in the bicycle lane on Edwards when he was struck from behind by a suspect who then fled the scene.

The compact sedan that hit him, believed to be Magdaleno's, received extensive front-end damage including a caved-in windscreen, according to Mendez.

The suspect was arrested a short time later near Golden West Street and Garfield Avenue.
