Driver In Custody After Wild Chase Through Beverly Hills

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A driver was arrested after he crashed his Mercedes SUV into a tree in Beverly Hills following a brief high speed pursuit by Los Angeles police.

The chase started at about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday in the Wilshire District when Los Angeles police officers tried to stop the vehicle for reckless driving.

Officers from LAPD's Hollywood Division then pursued the driver on surface streets through Hollywood, West Hollywood and into Beverly Hills, where he crashed into a tree at Sunset Boulevard and Alta Drive just before 11 p.m.

The driver then got out of the car and fled on foot, jumping over fences and running through yards until LAPD officers caught up to him in the courtyard of a large house.

No one was hurt.
