Police: Driver Goes Onto Huntington Beach Sidewalk, Kills Pedestrian

HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) – A 34-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after drove her SUV onto a sidewalk and killed a pedestrian early Thursday morning in Huntington Beach, police said.

The collision occurred at approximately 4 a.m. at Beach Boulevard and Edinger Avenue. Huntington Beach police said a 2000 BMW X5 was traveling north on Beach Boulevard when it hit a light pole, electric box and a traffic light, before going up onto a sidewalk and hitting a 55-year-old man.

The man was rushed to UC Irvine Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver remained at the scene. She was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The intersection was shut down for several hours while the Huntington Beach police Major Incident Response Team investigated.

No names were released.
