Dozens Shelter In Place After Temecula Crash, Gas Leak
TEMECULA (CBSLA.com) — A crash in Temecula's Old Town commercial district on Saturday afternoon led to gas leak that forced about 50 people to take shelter in a nearby building while the area was otherwise evacuated, authorities said.
No one was injured when a car crashed into a 1-inch gas main at Front and Fourth streets, according to a Riverside County Fire Department news release, but the impact caused a significant leak.
Authorities responded to the scene about 12:36 p.m., the release states, and the entire block between Third and Fourth streets was closed for a little over two hours. Meanwhile about 50 people were told to shelter in place at 42045 Third Street until workers from Southern California Gas Co. could stop the leak.
