Hundreds Gather At LA's French Consulate In Emotional Show Of Solidarity

CENTURY CITY (CBSLA.com) — An emotional vigil was held outside of the French consulate in Los Angeles on Saturday evening for the victims of the Paris terror attacks.

Flowers, candles and letters were left outside of the building in Century City in a show of solidarity following Friday's deadly attacks that claimed 129 lives in Paris and left more than 300 others injured.

Of those who converged at the vigil, some had previously lived in Paris, while others have friends and loved ones abroad.

"I'm here in solidarity with the French people. How can you not be? It was such a horrible, horrible event and I'm very sad and upset," Deborah Irmas, a mourner, said. "I think of all my friends that I've left behind there."

The series of coordinated attacks believed to have been carried out by three teams of extremists stunned the world.

ISIS has claimed responsibility for the deadliest attack in France since World War II.

Among those killed was Nathalie Dubois' brother.

"He had two children and, his wife, she was the love of his life. And very good son to my parents and best brother for me. Best brother," she told KCAL9's Brittney Hopper.

Dubois says her brother, who was an advertising executive in Paris, was attending a concert with friends while his wife and their two children stayed home.

She says when she heard about the terrorist attacks, she immediately called her family to make sure everything was OK.

But it wasn't.

"It's just, these people are, I don't think realize what they do," she said.

The gathering initially started out with dozens of people, but quickly grew to hundreds outside of the consulate.

"It's nice to see they have the support here and everywhere and so far away from France that we think of them," one man said.
