Downey Parents Arrested In Murder Of 4-Month-Old Girl

DOWNEY (CBSLA.com) — The parents of a 4-month-old girl who died at a hospital have been charged with murder and neglect, the Downey Police Department said Saturday.

The girl died New Year's Eve from malnutrition and blunt force trauma, according to Los Angeles Coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

Downey Police Lt. Mark McDaniel said the investigation began after a medical emergency call Tuesday to an apartment on the 8400 block of East Imperial Highway.

Police found the infant non-responsive, McDaniel said. Their efforts at CPR were unsuccessful, and the infant was pronounced dead at a hospital.

McDaniel said the parents were arrested after the coroner's office determined the infant girl's death was a homicide.

The parents' names have not been released.
