Double Homicide Investigation Underway In South LA

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Deputies Thursday were investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of two men in South Los Angeles.

Deputies were sent around 11:56 p.m. Wednesday to the 1200 block of West 87th Street near Budlong Avenue for report of a shooting, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Upon their arrival, authorities pronounced two African American victims -- a 26-year-old man and a 38-year-old man -- dead at the scene.

Their identities will be withheld pending family notification.

Deputies told CBS2's Kara Finnstrom on scene that both victims were "well-known gang members."

A preliminary investigation revealed a gunman shot and killed the two men during an argument in the front yard of a home. The suspect then fled from the scene in a dark colored sedan on east 87th Street.

The suspect and murder weapon have not been located at this time.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department at (323) 890-5500.
