Donations Help Family Who Lost Home In Fire Build Eco-Friendly House

BEVERLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A family who lost their home to a fire more than two years ago now has a new eco-friendly home.

The fire claimed the family's old home in 2011 when a candle from a menorah fell and set a table on fire.

Crews built the new house from the ground up to not only be eco-friendly, but also safe from fire.

The home was paid for mostly with donations and discounts from builders, including Kohler, Cosentino, Mitchell Gold & Bob Williams and Verengo Solar.

They helped out at the request of a family friend, who's a designer with a specialty in eco-friendly projects.

The house, located on Castle Heights Place in Beverlywood, will be open for public tour on Thursday, Jan. 30.
