Donald Trump Asked 'Birther' Question On 'Late Show With Stephen Colbert'

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — As Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump watches his lead in the polls narrow due to a recent rise in popularity for rival Carly Fiorina, the candidates' battle is increasingly playing out on television.

On Tuesday night, Trump appeared on "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert." The TV appearance comes in the wake of his controversial decision to not correct a speaker at one of his rallies who claimed President Barack Obama is a Muslim.

During the "Late Show" interview, Colbert asked Trump where he believes Obama was born. Trump chose not to answer the question directly.

It's just the latest in a string of TV appearances for Trump and rival Carly Fiorina as they try to sway public opinion outside of debates and town hall meetings.
