Domestic Violence Suspect Turns Self In After Escape From Hospital

MONTEBELLO (CBSLA.com)  —  A domestic violence suspect who had escaped from a hospital after threatening to kill himself turned himself in to authorities and is now in custody.

Corado Ferrer, 23, was reportedly involved in a domestic violence situation with his girlfriend Saturday morning around 1 a.m.

Ferrer reportedly choked the woman after biting her finger and pushing her to the ground causing her to hit her head.

A passerby saw the attack and called police.

Police said as they arrived, Ferrer fled. In his attempt to evade police, authorities said he broke his arm falling off an apartment building roof.

While being transported to Beverly Hospital for treatment and a psychiatric evaluation, Ferrer reportedly made statements that he was going to kill himself.

Officials said just before 5:20 a.m., he escaped the institution wearing only a hospital gown.

An extensive search for the suspect was conducted with the assistance of Monterey Park Police.

Ferrer turned himself in to the Montebello Police Department early Sunday.
