Dog Rescued From L.A. River Still Unclaimed By Owner

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A dog rescued from the Los Angeles River during an unexpected, quick-moving storm Friday remains unclaimed Tuesday by his owner.

The 18-pound Welsh Corgi mixed breed, nicknamed "Lucky" by the firefighters who rescued him, is about six years old, said Jan Selder, director of field operations for the Los Angeles Department of Animal Services.

He is being housed at an animal shelter and is no worse for wear for his ordeal, she said.

"He looks great," Selder said. "I visited him yesterday."

The dog was rescued Friday about 3:45 p.m. after it was spotted floating in the rain-swollen Los Angeles River in Burbank.

Lucky had no microchip implanted, and bore no identifying tag, and no one has come forward to claim him, Selder said. If no owner claims him by Thursday morning, he will be put up for adoption.

Anyone interested in adopting Lucky can call the Department of Animal Services at (888) 452-7381.
