Dog Recovers After Likely Being Attacked By Coyote In Long Beach Backyard

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A tiny dog is recovering after veterinarians say it was likely attacked by a coyote in a Long Beach backyard.

It happened at a home on East 55th Street not far from the Los Angeles River.

"Peanut" the dog suffered several puncture wounds.

His owners say his muscles were torn and he lost some teeth in the fight.

Peanut's owners rushed him to an animal medical center, where doctors told them that the size and shapes of the wounds suggest a coyote was to blame.

The veterinarian also told the owner that at least one animal a day has been admitted for a coyote attack.

As for Peanut, he's doing well and should be able to return home possibly as early as Sunday night.
