Dodgers About To Strike $77M Deal With Cuban IF Hector Olivera

GLENDAL, Ariz. (CBSLA.com) - Farhan Zaidi and the Los Angeles Dodgers are about to strike a deal with Cuban infielder Hector Olivera on a $77 million deal.

The Miami Marlins offered Olivera $53 million deal earlier in the week, but once they figured out the Dodgers bid was significantly larger, they backed off.

The 29-year-old has played in Cuba's Serie Nacional league for the 10 years with Asvispas de Santiago, hitting .323/.407/.505.

Other teams interested were Braves and the Padres.

If signed, he will play third base.

Other Cuban Yasiel Puig is currently serving a seven-year, $42 million contract with the Dodgers.
