Twin Brother's DNA Leads To Man's Arrest In 2012 Rowland Heights Rape
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The DNA of a man's twin brother led to his arrest for the 2012 sexual assault of a 29-year-old woman in her Rowland Heights apartment, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department said Monday.
Pablo Bautista, 26, was taken into custody Saturday for rape, aggravated mayhem and burglary for the Oct. 2012 attack in the 1500 block of Jellick Avenue.
Officials say the victim, who did not know her attacker, was also brutally beaten during the crime.
The case went unsolved until recently when Bautista's twin brother, Pedro, was arrested in an unrelated attempted murder investigation. Pedro's DNA turned up a hit in connection to the rape, sheriff's Lt. Steve Katz said.
Based on conversations with Pedro, a task force went looking for his brother.
"After an extensive manhunt, sheriff's Major Crimes Bureau detectives located and arrested Pablo Reyes Bautista in the Atwater Village area," Sgt. Richard Ruiz said.
Bautista had also previously lived in the Rowland Heights area, Ruiz added.
Bautista is being held on $1 million bail with arraignment set for Tuesday morning in Pomona.
