Dionne Warwick Talks About Another Loss Of Music Legend
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The list of legends the music business has lost in 2016 is already long.
The list got longer Thursday with the passing of Earth, Wind & Fire founder Maurice White who died at 74.
David Bowie, Natalie Cole, Glenn Frey of the Eagles, William Guest of the Pips, Celine Dion's manager husband and brother, Motorhead's Lemmy, Nicholas Caldwell of The Whispers, R&B singer Otis Clay, Dale Griffin from Mott the Hoople, Tower of Power's Mic Gillette -- the new year has not been kind to the music business.
The In Memoriam segment at this year's Grammys will, no doubt, be a tear jerker like no other. (The 58th Grammys airs on CBS, Mon. Feb. 15, 5 p.m. PT)
Dionne Warwick -- a legend in her own right and cousin of the late Whitney Houston -- on Friday made a statement about the loss of White that seems to best capture how many people are feeling about music's latest loss.
"God must be putting together the ultimate music extravaganza as He has called another of my dear friends home. Anyone who has followed any of my interviews knows how I always let it be known that Earth, Wind & Fire was my favorite group and what a close and wonderful friend Maurice was to me. He definitely will be missed! My deep heartfelt condolences go out to his family. Rest in peace my friend."
