Developers Eye Shopping Center On Site Of Sportsmen's Lodge Complex

STUDIO CITY (CBSLA.com) — A portion of a longtime San Fernando Valley landmark will soon be an upscale outdoor mall.

Developers have asked the Los Angeles City Planning Commission to approve construction on a new 97,000-square-foot shopping center on the site of the Sportsmen's Lodge compound near Coldwater Canyon and Ventura Boulevard in Studio City.

A public hearing notice outlines the proposal, which includes space for restaurant and retail use along with another 30,000 square feet for "health club space".

But with only 445 parking spaces available for the entire complex, some local residents have warned cars could end up being parked in surrounding residential neighborhoods and cause potential traffic issues.

Plans for the development will not affect the Sportsmen's Lodge hotel itself, which is still located on the site.

The hearing is set for March 25.
