Detectives Search For Killers Who Gunned Down Boy Painting Over Gang Graffiti In Compton

COMPTON (CBSLA.com) — Sheriff's homicide detectives are searching for a gunman and his accomplice in the fatal shooting of a boy who was spray-painting over gang graffiti in his Compton neighborhood.

Two suspects pulled up in a black sedan about 11:40 a.m. Wednesday and chased the boy north on Largo Avenue, sheriff's Deputy Amber Smith said.

When they caught up with him in the 1600 block of Largo Avenue, the driver fired two rounds through the front passenger side window, hitting the boy in the upper body, she said.

The boy died at the scene.

The child's name was withheld pending family notification. The sheriff's department would not immediately release his age.

The boy's murder marked the second shooting death in Compton in three days. A man riding a bicycle Monday evening was shot to death in what investigators believe was a targeted killing.

Anyone with information on the shooting of the boy can call the Sheriff's Information Bureau at (213) 229-1700.
