Man Dies After Being Shot In Upper Torso With Semi-Automatic Rifle, Detectives Say

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a man in unincorporated Los Angeles.

The victim, described as a Hispanic man, was pronounced dead in the area of East 71st Street and Central Avenue.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says detectives responded to that location just after 12:40 a.m. Sunday, according to a written statement.

Authorities believe the victim was shot in the upper torso with a semi-automatic rifle, the statement said.

Before the shooting, the LASD says the victim had been walking through an alleyway when an unidentified suspect exited a vehicle and produced the weapon.

"The unidentified suspect vehicle then fled the location in an unknown direction," the statement said.

No further details were provided, but anyone with more information was asked to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
