Detainee Found Dead Inside Murrieta Jail

MURRIETA (CBSLA.com)  —   A detainee died while in custody at a Murrieta jail, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department reported Sunday.

Jail personnel reportedly found an unresponsive person at 7:20 p.m. Friday in a holding cell of the Southwest Detention Center, said Sgt. Wallace Clear of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Paramedics and jail medical staff responded, but the person was pronounced dead.

The person's name and gender was not released.

The cause and mode of death was also not revealed.

The Sheriff's Department will release the person's identity pending a coroner's investigation, Clear said.

It was not clear if the detainee was awaiting trial or already convicted.
