Man Arrested For Allegedly Killing Girlfriend's Mother In Hawthorne Fight

HAWTHORNE (CBSLA.com) — A 25-year-old man was arrested Friday for allegedly running over his girlfriend's mother during an argument.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, deputies were sent around 8:35 p.m. Thursday to the 13300 block of Doty Avenue to assist police investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman.

A preliminary investigation revealed Amir Bass, of Los Angeles, was arguing with his 32-year-old girlfriend in front of her apartment complex, where she lived with her mother.

At one point, her 67-year-old mother jumped out of a separate vehicle and became involved in the argument.

According to deputies, Bass then allegedly ran over his girlfriend's mother with his vehicle, and fled from the scene heading southbound on Doty Avenue.

The woman was transported to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Her identity is being withheld pending family notification.

Authorities reported the girlfriend was also transported for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the argument.

CBS2's Kara Finnstrom reported officials located Bass and his vehicle a short time later. He was subsequently taken into custody on suspicion of murder.

Detectives explained they are continuing to interview witnesses in the area.

The investigation is ongoing.
