Man Dies In Deputy-Involved Shooting In Stevenson Ranch

STEVENSON RANCH (CBSLA) - A man died from a gunshot wound Sunday after sheriff's deputies were called to a home in Stevenson Ranch.

The deputy-involved shooting occurred in the 24000 block of Chicory Court about 4:20 p.m., according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Eva Jimenez.

"I heard four to six shots fire off, kind of in rapid succession," said John Deeb, a neighbor. "Nothing after that."

LASD investigators said a relative called 911 for a disturbed family member and told dispatchers the man was home alone, suicidal and possibly armed.

Deputies said when they showed up, the man confronted them with a rifle. Deputies fired at the man after they he pointed the rifle toward them, according to investigators.

Investigators said the man went back inside and deputies later found him with a gunshot wound. He died in the house.

"It's unknown if the individual was struck by gunfire from the deputies or if it was self-inflicted," said Lt. Charles Calderaro of the LASD Homicide Bureau. "That will be determined once evidence is processed."

The man has not been identified but investigators said he was in his 30's and lived in the home with his family.

LASD homicide detectives were investigating the shooting.
