Deputies Shoot Armed Suspect In South LA

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Homicide detectives Tuesday investigated the circumstances surrounding a deputy-involved shooting that occurred in South Los Angeles.

The shooting unfolded shortly after 9:30 p.m. Monday in the 8700 block of Budlong Avenue when deputies attempted to stop a bicyclist to conduct a traffic stop.

The suspect ignored the commands and fled from the scene on his bicycle in possession of a handgun.

At one point, the suspect dismounted his bicycle, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.

Paramedics transported the suspect to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to his torso.

An update on his condition was not immediately available.

No deputies were injured by the shooting.

Detectives recovered a handgun at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
