Deadly Deputy-Involved Shooting Reported In East Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)  —   Authorities on Saturday said LA County Sheriff's deputies were involved in the shooting and wounding of a suspect in East Los Angeles.

The shooting occurred about 2:30 p.m. in the 5200 block of Corona Avenue in Maywood, officials said.

County Sheriff's Homicide detectives were dispatched to the location to investigate.

Saturday evening, officials revealed the suspect succumbed to his injuries.

The suspect was taken to an area hospital.

No deputies were injured.

Officials said they were responding to a domestic violence call when they encountered the suspect in a bedroom.

The deputies saw the suspect was armed with a homemade spear.

The deputies said they tried to use less than lethal force which was unsuccessful in disarming the suspect. The suspect lunged at the deputies, and one deputy fired his duty weapon, striking the suspect numerous times in the upper torso.

On Sunday, officials identified the deceased as Jesus Duran, 31, of Maywood.

The investigation is on-going.
