Witnesses Say Man Killed During Deputy-Involved Shooting In Temecula

TEMECULA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Tuesday investigated a deputy-involved shooting in Temecula that left one man dead, according to witnesses.

The shooting occurred shortly after 10:30 a.m. at the Temecula Library right next to the Temecula Courthouse at County Center Drive and Ynez Road, according to a Riverside County Sheriff's spokesperson.

A sheriff's deputy working at the courthouse responded to the sound of screams and what appeared to be an argument between a couple. The altercation started near a black Jeep in the parking lot. Bins of clothes had been thrown out of the car

Witnesses claim hearing "put it down" followed by two gunshots. Witnesses also say a man who had a knife was shot and killed. Sheriff's officials say a deputy-involved shooting did occur but did not confirm the witness account of a man being killed. Officials confirmed the officer was injured but not by gunfire. The extent of the injury wasn't immediately known.

The shooting was under investigation.
