Deputy-Involved Shooting Injures Suspect In Azusa

AZUSA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Friday investigated the circumstances surrounding a deputy-involved shooting that occurred in Azusa.

Around 6 p.m. on Thursday, homicide detectives responded to a deputy-involved shooting that occurred on North Citrus Avenue near East Alosta Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

A preliminary investigation revealed San Dimas Station patrol deputies observed a Hispanic man who brandished a handgun while driving a white Chevy Malibu in the area.

A short vehicle pursuit ensued on North Citrus Avenue. As they approached East Alosta Avenue, the suspect stopped his vehicle, exited through the passenger door, and pointed a handgun in the direction of the deputies.

A deputy-involved shooting subsequently occurred, officials explained.

The suspect was struck once in his upper torso by gunfire before he fled on foot. Authorities followed the suspect, and arrested him a short distance away.

Paramedics transported the suspect to a hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the shooting. At this time, he remains listed in stable condition.

No deputies were injured in the shooting.

Deputies said the suspect's weapon was recovered at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
