Deputies fatally shoot man who was allegedly firing shots into the air in East LA

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies fatally shot a man who was allegedly firing shots into the air in East Los Angeles on Friday. 

They were called to the 1500 block of Helen Drive at around 4:20 a.m. after receiving reports of a "male adult who was shooting into the air," said a news release from LASD. 

"Responding deputies located and contacted the suspect," the release said. "The suspect produced a handgun and fired at deputies at which point a deputy involved shooting occurred."

Deputies performed medical aid to the suspect, but he was declared dead at the scene by paramedics, according to the release. 

They said that a firearm was recovered at the scene.
