Deputies Recover 88 Pounds Of Meth In Routine Traffic Stop

SANTA CLARITA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities have recovered approximately 88 pounds of methamphetamine in routine traffic stop in the Santa Clarita Valley, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said Friday.

The drugs were recovered Wednesday afternoon near Interstate 5 and Templin Highway.

During the traffic stop, deputies were prompted to place the suspect in the back of their patrol car for unknown reasons.

The drugs were then found during a search of the vehicle.

"Once inside the deputies patrol vehicle, the male suspect kicked out the rear window of the patrol vehicle he was placed in and ran across the entire freeway to escape sheriff's deputies," Dep. Joshua Dubin said.

Authorities searched the area by ground, air and the assistance of a K-9 team, but were unable to find the suspect.

He was later arrested Thursday night after officials received a call about a man matching his description near the Paradise Ranch Mobile Home Park. He was found hiding inside an empty water tank.

The unidentified suspect was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station on narcotics charges.
